Journey to North London! Went along to the Arts Depot opening of their ninth annual open exhibition. Said to be getting better each year and can say that I enjoyed what I saw....nearly bought a photo piece by Melissa Lane-Porter...hmmn, still thinking about it. (see below). Enjoyed meeting the nice people who put the whole thing together along with some interesting artists. The show will continue until the 8th of September. http://www.artsdepot.co.uk

Feeling excited about the upcoming Cork Street Open
Exhibition. Just framed my work and a few finishing touches to go. The show is in the heart of Mayfair and you will find an array of current painting, photography, sculpture, prints and more. This August, the 9th - the 16th at The Gallery in Cork Street, London, W1S 3NG. http://www.corkstreetopenexhibition.com/ So had what I'm sure will turn out to be one of the best nights of the summer, if not the year. Went along to the opening night party for the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Portrait Prize. Spent the day enjoying the vibrancy of Birmingham including the world class Barber Institute of Fine Arts. (totally blown away). As an artist enjoyed chit chatting with fellow portrait painters especially one of my painting heros Simon Davis (see below). The level of quality was very high, so high that I felt grateful to be able to show my work amongst them. Group shot!...from left to right: Tim Benson - amazing artist, runner up prize winner and all round nice guy, me - first prize winner (yes its true), Nicola Kalinsky - Director of the Barber Institute of Fine Art and guest judge, Alastair Adams - President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and show juror, Robert Neil - president of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and Emily Porter-Salmon RBSA member and runner up prize winner for her excellent sculpture. Simon Davis, all star portrait painter and one of the jurors asked to take a photo. Me trying to keep it together.
The summer is shaping up nicely and I will be enjoying two summer show openings soon. My work has been selected to show at the annaul Art Depot Open and one of my new Hanging Fruit paintings has been shortlisted for the Cork Street Open Exhibition in Londons historic Cork Street. Truly happy to be on show as the temperature rises. Summertime and art seems to go together some how.
