So had what I'm sure will turn out to be one of the best nights of the summer, if not the year. Went along to the opening night party for the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Portrait Prize. Spent the day enjoying the vibrancy of Birmingham including the world class Barber Institute of Fine Arts. (totally blown away). As an artist enjoyed chit chatting with fellow portrait painters especially one of my painting heros Simon Davis (see below). The level of quality was very high, so high that I felt grateful to be able to show my work amongst them. Group shot!...from left to right: Tim Benson - amazing artist, runner up prize winner and all round nice guy, me - first prize winner (yes its true), Nicola Kalinsky - Director of the Barber Institute of Fine Art and guest judge, Alastair Adams - President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and show juror, Robert Neil - president of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and Emily Porter-Salmon RBSA member and runner up prize winner for her excellent sculpture. Simon Davis, all star portrait painter and one of the jurors asked to take a photo. Me trying to keep it together.
